Nick’s Story | Career Development | Aberla Utilities

Nick joined Aberla in October with a background in manufacturing and the goal of becoming a fully qualified splicer. As Nick had no previous experience in the telecoms sector, he knew he had to put in the work and show dedication to achieving his goal.

Since then, Nick has had a lot of hands-on experience and completed numerous training courses that has included IPAF, SA001, SA002 and City & Guilds to name a few. Working with our knowledgeable operatives Nick can now build, splice and test splitter boxes as well as use Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (MEWPs).

We caught up with Nick to ask him how he is finding his job so far and here is what he had to say.

“The opportunity to meet with the Aberla Utilities management team and discuss taking part in the training programme was near life changing.

Having no previous experience was daunting, but after the first induction day it was clear that it was going to be the right fit for me. Everyone was so welcoming and very helpful in getting me set up and ready to start work.

The training I have received so far has been second to none and has helped me become fully operational in the field. At first, I was nervous as I was new to the job but several months later I now feel much more confident in my role.

There is already a clear pathway for progression within Aberla Utilities and I look forward to my long future with the company.”

Aberla has provided numerous people with the opportunity to kickstart their career, which includes trainee programmes, apprenticeships and offering work experience to students. Aberla is always on the lookout for new talent that we can help nurture and progress.

Paul McCarren, chief executive officer at Aberla commented on the matter “As a business it is important that we see people for their potential and help them grow in their career. Giving the right person an opportunity will create a foundation of trust and loyalty.”

The telecommunications sector is continuing to grow and Aberla is proud to be a part of it. Nick has now been part of the Aberla team for 5 months and is doing a great job!
