Main Objectives:

Reporting to the project manager, your role will be to use your knowledge and experience to assist the team to install fibre network infrastructure, including but not limited to wiring harnesses, working with fibre optic cables and working with circuit boards

 

The main duties include the responsibility for the following:

  • Carrying out risk assessments prior to work
  • Interpreting box-to-box diagrams and maps to understand the routes
  • Make each entry point safe using gate guards and signage as appropriate
  • Cary out rodding and roping to establish whether the planned cable routes are clear and visible
  • Identify blockages and attempt to pass them
  • Complete A55 forms to identify the precise location of any blockage which requires clearance using a dig-down
  • Use traffic management as needed in accordance with Chapter 8
  • Work with civil contractors as needed
  • Using the information supplied in job packs, prepare cable and pull into the route, install following ropes for the next cable where required, leave coils for installing equipment and secure the cables
  • Label in accordance with the network provider’s requirements at entry and exit points. Take photographs as required for completing as-built documentation
  • Ensure tools and vehicles which are assigned to you are well-kept and safely secured

 

Qualifications, training and experience – Essential:

  • Proven track record of high-quality cabling work with references
  • 3 years experience of cabling in ducts and infrastructure (both overhead and underground)
  • Full clean driving license and age appropriate license to tow cable trailer

  • NSRWA Unit 2 Signage, Guarding and Light
  • NSRWA Unit LA Avoidance of Underground Apparatus
  • IPAF MEWP Mobile Boom 1B
  • SA002 – UG Safety
  • K8 – Hand Rodding in the UG Network
  • DB1 – Duct Blockage
  • DL1 – Duct Laying
  • GO1 – General Operative 1
  • GO2 – General Operative 2
  • N23 – One Fibre Network FTTP Strategic UG and OH Build
  • N27 – One Fibre Network Cabling in the Overhead Network
  • N28 – One Fibre Network Cabling in the Underground Network
